20th Century Fox hasn’t been very fortunate in the past few years with its theatrical releases (X-men 3, anyone?), which is why they may have decided to release the animated film Fantastic Mr. Fox under their indie division Fox Searchlight.

Searchlight has had a recent string of hits including, Napoleon Dynamite, Juno, The Wrestler and this year’s Oscar powerhouse Slumdog Millionaire, so this could turn out to be a very shrewd move for the studio and the filmmakers. It also gives audiences a chance to see what the directors and producers can do on their own without a lot of meddling by Fox, which takes a more “hands off” approach with Searchlight.

Fantastic Mr. Fox is based on the novel of same name, written by Roald Dahl and directed by Wes Anderson. Dahl also wrote the classic stories Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach. Wes Anderson, the director of indie classics Rushmore, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and the underrated Bottle Rocket, shares screenplay credits with Noah Baumbach, and is joined by the voices of George Clooney (Mr. Fox), Meryl Streep (Mrs. Fox) and Bill Murray (Badger). Jason Schwartzman and Angelica Houston also lend their voices, but reports say their roles are no more than cameos.

Mr. Fox is filmed with the stop motion animation technique similar to Chicken Run, Wallace and Gromit and James and the Giant Peach. Each of those films were favorably received by audiences and critics, so Mr. Fox should have no problem selling tickets at a box office hungry for family-friendly film.

The story revolves around some angry farmers who are tired of sharing their chickens with a sly fox and are looking to get rid of their opponent and his family. I think the film is on the right path to becoming a great movie, especially with names like Dahl, Anderson, Clooney and Searchlight attached to it.

Fantastic Mr. Fox is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters November 13th with releases in the UK and Russia on October 22nd and 23rd respectively. We could see a trailer attached to Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs on July 1st but that has not yet been confirmed.

I’ve been following Edgar Wright’s Flickr for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World daily waiting to see if photos of two other actors in the cast that I run sites for have popped up. To my surprise, today’s photo looks as though it is Jason.  I’ve no idea on who he’s playing just yet, but I will keep you guys updated.

In a seven-figure deal, Universal Pictures has acquired “The Adventurer’s Handbook,” a script for a comedy that will star Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzman.

Hill, who built momentum starring in Judd Apatow projects like “Superbad” and “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” served as the catalyst for the new film. He wrote the script with Matt Spicer and Max Winkler, inspired by the book by Mick Conefrey.

Hill also enlisted Akiva Schaffer, who is negotiating to direct.

Schaffer is best known for teaming with Andy Samberg and Jorma Taccone as Lonely Island, the trio behind a series of digital shorts and musicvideos for “Saturday Night Live.”

Schaffer, who has directed many “SNL” episodes, made his feature directing debut on the Samberg starrer “Hot Rod.”

“The Adventurer’s Handbook” is a comedy in which a quartet of pals go on a global adventure, inspired by the hardcore stories of explorers whose tales are chronicled in Conefrey’s book.

The plan is to start production later this year; Hill, Spicer and Winkler will be exec producers.

Three studios bid on the comedy. Hill and Schwartzman just worked together in the Apatow-directed Universal/Columbia co-production “Funny People.”

Hill next stars in the U comedy “Get Him to the Greek,” while Schwartzman next shoots the HBO series “Bored to Death.”

Top 5 Favorite Places in L.A.

1. Ten Over Six
This is a G R E E E A A A A A T store! First off, it’s in a beautiful old brick building on Beverly Blvd. and the space itself is open and light, and very inviting. Ten Over Six sells a variety of awesome accessories for both men and women, and cool stuff for your home. For the ladies, they offer lingerie, beautiful jewelry that you’d be hard pressed to find elsewhere, purses and bags, shoes and the most incredible limited edition CBC coats!!! For men, they stock great ties (which I own myself), old backgammon sets, dress shoes and sneakers, hunting hats, sunglasses and bags. They sell objects for the home, have a skateboard/glass Lazy Susan table, incredible vases, plates, silverware, lighting, and ceramic heads of different animals (I have the cat). On top of that, they carry fantastic books — my favorite being the hard to get Boris Vian collection published by TamTamBooks. Not to mention the sexy staff! All those ladies are super hot, and if you’re in the market for some studly eye candy, ask for Joe (Careful! He’s married!!!)

2. Opening Ceremony
I love Opening Ceremony. I’m sure most people have heard of it by now, but if you haven’t and you live in L.A. or New York, make a point to visit. They carry lots and lots and lots of different designers you’ll most likely not find anywhere else! I get a lot of my clothes here because the designers they carry make nice things that will last a long time. The L.A. location has two levels, including a book section and CD store for your eyes and ears. Plus, I hate going into a store where the people that work there are cold and can’t be bothered. Too cool for school! But at Opening Ceremony they’re super nice and will take time to help you find whatever you need. Sometimes I go there just to hang out with all the people that work there.

3. Pro Drum Shop
I’ve been going to Pro Drum Shop for my drum needs since I was young, for both hardware and sticks. Stan and Jerry are brothers, and have owned the place since the beginning! It’s a staple of my L.A. world, and any aspiring musician should try here first for your percussion needs. The brothers are some of the nicest men I know, and have the best selection of drums around. (Whatever they don’t have, they can probably get for you.) They have great vintage drum sets for sale, too, which makes it feel like a museum — except you’re more than welcome to bang away on the art. And there are always all kinds of incredible drummers lurking around. I make a point to go there once a week (if I can) just to see the guys and check out what’s new in the store.

4. Cinefamily at the Silent Movie Theater
This isn’t really store, but I have to tell you all about my favorite place in L.A. It’s in the an old landmark Silent Movie Theater on Fairfax, and has been completely taken over by lunatics. They show movies I PROMISE you will not find anywhere else. Each night is a different theme. Wednesdays are silent movies. Thursday is music night. Fridays are double-feature nights. They also have camp film night, disturbing cartoons and musicals. The people that work there love film, and if you do, too — or are even just in the mood to have a crazy night — you should go there asap. (Plus, they serve cupcakes and have couches.) It’s a no-brainer, people. (If you want to rent great movies go to Cinefile. They stock the widest variety of hard to find, amazing films. The people who work there are the best and can recommend anything to suit your mood. Please support both Cinefile and Cinefamily at the Silent Movie Theater; they are both independently owned, a rarity these days.)

5. Book Soup
Book Soup is my favorite bookstore in L.A. I’ve been going for years and years. They offer a selection of books ranging from best-sellers to hard to find and obscure books. The people who work there are kind, and love literature, so you can trust their recommendations section. You can walk in, tell them what kind of book you’re in the mood for, and they’ll take as much time you need to find something that you’ll love. I’ve become friends with all of the people that work there (WHAT’S UP TOSH!!!! WHAT’S UP MANNY!!!!) and I often go in there just to hang. For a couple months I was in Book Soup at least once a day, would spend hours there just browsing and talking about books and music with everyone. This is my favorite place in L.A.; the city wouldn’t be the same without it. Each time I drive by it I get happy.
